A patio is in essence, an outdoor room. Just as you play Monopoly, take naps, play a handheld game, or soak in the massage pumping jet water of hot tubs indoors – you can do the same outdoors.

Outdoor living is the very definition of patios. Patios provide a means to relax in the comforts of the outdoors inhaling fresh air, basking in the heat of the pleasant sun, and lounging on your teak and wicker patio furniture. Want to read in the dark just as you would indoors? Proper outdoor lighting can attend to that!

Placing furniture and outdoor lighting systems in strategic locations will go a long way towards filling the perfect outdoor living space.

Determining the layout of your patio furniture is very important. Just as you have its proper place in the corner of your dining room, it has its place outdoors. Place all of your patio furniture on an even surface – not one that slants. Your wicker furniture (as well as your back) will thank you for not falling backwards. Decorate your patio with patterned cushions – buy it handmade if you’re into expensive, exclusive furniture accessories. A great suggestion to follow is related to color scheme. Wouldn’t a table and chair wicker furniture set match with a wooden floor that has a boardwalk feel? Wouldn’t teak furniture look superb over brick floor material and darker tiles? Choosing the right patio furniture (whether it be teak, wicker, cedar, or aluminum) requires creative savvy.

Remember to use durable patio covers to cover all of your patio furniture when not in use. Patio covers help protect against the elements of sun (which can discolor your patio teak furniture from dark brown to grey), and rain (rusts wrought iron furniture.) Remember, patios are outdoor rooms. The essence of the indoors is truly transferred to the outdoors with patios and patio furniture.
