BBQ turkey is an amazingly delicious meal sure to leave you panting for more each and every time.

Grilling plump, well-cooked turkey is a cook’s favorite reward – the long time it takes to cook those drumsticks and turkey breasts paves the way for heavenly eating later on! Gas grills and barbeque smokers are commonly used to cook turkey, although we are more accustomed to using our ovens. Barbequing and grilling turkey can be difficult without becoming acquainted with essential grilling tips.

The first two things to consider in order to properly barbeque a turkey are its size and weight. Flat turkeys fare better in the Weber grill than ¨taller¨ turkeys. There should be ample space between the lid and the top of the turkey to grill correctly. The weight for a generic, average turkey should be 15 lbs. – no more, no less. Ensure that the turkey is thawed before hand to create fist pumping grilling recipes using cold water or refrigerators. Seasoning can be done at the same time as well. Proper barbequing protocol calls for loose turkey parts to be wrapped securely around the trunk of the bird, such as holding drumsticks and wings together with bands for it to cook right.

When taking its temperature, always place the thermometer inside the bbq turkey’s thigh. Make sure the temperature reaches 170ºF or more. Anything lowers than this; will make you end up in the infirmary. Gas grill and barbecue smoker cooking times depend solely on the weight of the barbecue turkey. For 8 to 10 lbs. birds, a cooking time of 2 hours is appropriate. For 10 to 12, it should take 2 and a half hours maximum, and from 12 to 16 (maximum weight for normal grilling), it should take no more than 2 and a half hours. Follow these grilling recipes times, create your favorite mouth watering turkey recipes, and enjoy!
